Tiny Art Show Opening at the River Oaks Arts Center

Way back in September, someone told me about an art show in Alexandria, Louisiana that featured only “tiny art.” All entries for this show had to had to by 5″ x 5″ x 5″ or smaller. It sounded interesting, and I had just gotten back into drawing; I figured I may as well enter something. Tiny art is definitely a unique challenge, and I discussed my experience drawing and going through the “call for entry” process in previous write-ups.

Fast forward a bit, and I ended up getting one of my entries accepted for the show! Friday evening was the opening of this exhibit, so my family and I headed over to check it out. According to a sign inside, they had 275 total pieces entered, and accepted 113 for the show. My drawing was fairly close to the entrance (bottom row, second from the left):

We tried to get a photo of the girls by the drawing, since they are the subjects. But they weren’t cooperating at all! There were people all over the place, and the girls were both too curious to sit still. Our oldest was also very interested in some of the pieces on display, especially a couple of hand-carved wooden fishing lures that she was calling her lizards.

Overall, I enjoyed the experience and would probably enter art into a show again if I came across another opportunity. I’m not sure that tiny art is my best skill though, because I felt like many of the entries were noticeably higher quality than mine. Some of the other pieces were really amazing; there was one in particular that was a 1″ x 1″ painting of candy bars in a vending machine that was incredibly good. There were a few paintings that had such fine detail, I have no clue how they even did it from a mechanical standpoint.
