Sergeant Mittens

A humorous military tableau, a small tabby cat in full uniform and beret seated proudly among human soldiers, its name tag reading ‘Mittens’ in deadpan military fashion. Warm olive-green fatigues unify cat and soldiers alike, while the cat’s alert, wide-eyed expression provides the piece’s clear comedic focal point. Human figures around it are rendered with looser, more sketchy strokes, keeping full attention on the perfectly poised feline. Pink-flushed cheeks throughout give the piece a warm, painterly cohesion despite its silly premise. The overall mood is playful and deadpan, comedy delivered through composition rather than exaggeration.
