Sitting in a Dark Room – Art Print of an Oil Painting. With this piece, I had an itch to get some practice with dark color blends, partially inspired by wanting to improve on a previous painting that featured tons of darkness with small bright highlights. I thought I’d take a shot at similar concepts again. With this portrait, I used a few different blends of varying proportions: raw umber + ultramarine blue, raw umber + phthalo blue, raw umber + cad red + ultramarine blue, and burnt umber + ultramarine blue. I was able to get some really distinct versions of very dark areas, so I think overall it was a success. The subject is holding her legs while sitting, and I like how fabric folds seem to match the subject’s positioning.
