Portrait of a Man with a Background Layer – Art Print of an Oil Painting. This painting was one of the rare ones that I actually started with a background wash of sort of a brownish base layer. It was dry prior to starting the portrait though, which helped me prevent turning the piece muddy. I really like the zones of distinct color in the subject’s face, and enjoyed exploring the warmer and cooler areas.
Additional Details: Original oil painting by Jon Amdall using alla prima direct painting technique, Utrecht brushes, Gamblin and Utrecht paints, and Strathmore paper. Art prints are from FinerWorks on their Premium Giclee thick (21-mil) heavy weight (310g) paper.
